Halloween Candy - Magic Kingdom - Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party
We went to Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party in September 2023. We paid £129 for each ticket. This is a separately ticketed event to your standard ticket. You are able to get into Magic Kingdom with the Halloween ticket from 16:00 to be able to enjoy a few hours in the park before the event offically starts at 19:00 and ends at Midnight. There are different characters you can see during this event, such as Maleficent, Cruella and other villans. There is a special Halloween parade and you can also collect tons of candy at select locations throughout the park. You can purchase special drinks/food items as well should you wish.
Personally for us, we really enjoyed the Halloween parade as this was quite fun and entertaining, though guests were packed in like sardines in a can and guests were pushing other guests to find a space. The park is really well themed for the party as it's decorated throughout with pumpkins, lamps and other spooky decorations. However, this is meant to be a limited ticketed event where they only allow a select amount of people in, our experience was different. The park was filled with guests, and ride queues were not much shorter than they had been in the day and we still waited over an hour for Space mountain at one point. Whilst going to get the candy, we has a walking queue that was 15 mins to get a small handful of candy and this was the norm as most locations which took a good chunk out of the evening and really didn't leave time for much else. We did try a few of the different foods, a scary burger and a green drink however these were also nothing special which was a shame.
Overall, whilst we did enjoy most of the night, personally for us, this isn't something we would do again and would rather have kept the money to be spent on something else during the trip.
Cheshire Cat Tail - Magic Kingdom - Cheshire Cat Cafe
This is chocolate pastry with pink and purple icing ($5.99 + tax). This pastry we thoroughly enjoy and purchase many times when we visit as it's a quick bite to eat if you're needing a snack or you want a light breakfast. If you can get a fresh one, they taste even better!
Hot Dogs - Magic Kingdom - Casey's Corner
Casey's Corner sells a variety of hot dogs to choose, from your standard hot dog to speciality hot dogs during special events. This one was the holiday hot dog which was very heavy on the stomach though was very quite tasty. These hot dogs whilst tasty are very salty so be sure to have a drink on hand as you'll need it. The corn dog nuggets are very filling despite their small size, though we found them to be a bit dry unless you have some sort of dipping sauce. The " cheese" sauce is a must, even though it's probably never seen real cheese, lol, it does have a lovely smooth texture which compliments pretty much anything you dip into it. The fries at Casey's are always lovely and crispy with the potato inside which is really fluffy. This cost us around $25 and we would say it can easily be shared between 2-4 people depending on how hungry your party is.
Ronto Wraps - Hollywood Studios - Ronto Roasters
Both of these Ronto Wraps were just amazing! They were full of flavour and the snap of sausage was so good. The left one is the breakfast wrap ($12.79 + tax) - Eggs, Grilled Pork Sausage, Shredded Cheddar and peppercorn Sauce in a pita bread and the right one is the Ronto Wrap ($13.29 + tax) - Roasted Pork, Grilled Pork Sausage, peppercorn sauce, tangy slaw in a pita bread. You can get both of these in the morning until 11:00am however when it switches to the lunch menu you can only purchase the Ronto Wrap. We highly suggest going for breakfast first thing as you get into the park, you can even mobile order if you are staying onsite at a Disney resort, select the time you want to pick up and then select when you are ready for collection and they will prepare your order. This is a great way to start your day and we felt they were really good value for money as they filled us up for a good 4-5 hours.
We went to the Grand Floridian cafe for lunch (we had a reservation as they are required, though sometimes you can get walk up's if they have the space) however we weren't overly impressed with the food or the service.
The decor and the way they have set the restaurant is beautiful with quite a lot of space. It was very clean and the staff were well presented.
We ordered Buttermilk - Fried chicken and waffles ($26 + tax) and the Lobster burger ($28 + tax, they don't appear to sell this anymore). The chicken and waffles came with a side of sriracha honey sauce which was warm and went very nicely with the chicken and the waffles. The coating on the chicken itself was very crunchy but the chicken was a bit dry. The lobster burger was messy trying to eat it and it kept falling apart when you picked it up. The burger patty was also not cooked all the way through (this is common in the USA so ensure you askfor it well done) and the fries, whilst you got a lot, didn't have much flavour and had no crunch at all. The pina Colava we ordered was very nice, it was flavourful and creamy! The service, wasn't great considering this was a sit down meal. It took the cast members a long while to even take our order, we waited about 15 mins before being seen. Our meals didn't come out together and we had to wait another 10 mins for the other meal to arrive. Instead of a bread service, we got biscuits (unsweetened scone to the british people, 😂) though they were served with cream, butter and Jam which we thought was a strange combination to be served with a main meal. Once we had finished our meals, our plates were sat on the table for a good 15 minutes they were taken away.
We had heard about the Polite Pig from numerous youtube vloggers/pages and decided to give it a go and see what the fuss was all about! Well, it lived up to our expectations! We ordered the Butcher Board (serves 2, $44 + tax) which comes with some Pork shoulder, smoked chicken, brisket, BBQ cheddar sausage alongside coleslaw, pickles, two cornbreads and choice of 2 market sides, which we chose Mac N Cheese and Potato barrels.
The service was friendly and swift, they are kind enough to leave a kitchen roll on every table so you don't have to worry about napkins for your sticky fingers! 🤣 The restaurant whilst it can get busy, is quite spacious with accommodating seating indoors and outdoors. The food came out rather quickly after ordering and was very hot which was a nice change compared to some other places to eat.
The brisket was very nice, full of flavour and very tender. The pork shoulder fell of the bone and again, was very juicy and yummy. The chicken however, whilst the skin has a nice flavour, the chicken itself we felt was dry and needed some sauce. The sausage whilst nice, was a bit greasy but overall satisfying. Mac N Cheese was very creamy, filling and had a nice crunchy topping which added to the texture. The coleslaw and pickles were very crunchy and went well with the meat. The potato barrels has a decent crunchy outlayer whilst being fluffy on the inside. The little cornbreads that we got were very soft. Overall, it was worth the visit and the money we spent as we both walked out the restaurant very full but satisfied.
Chocolate Covered Bacon - Polynesian Resort - Kona Island
Now this one might cause controversy as it's a bit of an odd snack. You can get different flavours of this snack, chocolate, pineapple and coconut and chili. We got the chocolate and the pineapple. Now one of us loved the treat and the other thought it was awful, so you'd have to try it to make your own decisions.
The chocolate one was a great one and the saltiness of the bacon alongside of the sweetness of the chocolate really went well together. We also got a vanilla dole whip from Pineapple Lanai and put the two together, again it was a nice treat.
The pineapple and coconut bacon treat wasn't for us as it was far too sweet and the weird texture of the dried pineapple really didn't go well together for our liking.
If you like trying new but weird snacks, this one is for you! 😁
